Did I bypass proxy?

Today, a weird thing happened to me when I was downloading a 73MB file. Our college has a proxy server(squid/3.0.STABLE25) installed in it. One of the restriction is a file which has memory more than 32MB cannot be downloaded.

So I started downloading(I use light downloader* to download files) such files using a software named ultra surf(proxy bypasser in LAN). In the middle, I suddenly stopped the ultra surf and found that the download is still going on, with out ultrasurf.

Though 3 out of 5 sections were unable to get through proxy, 2 sections successfully managed to bypass proxy server and the download was continued.
Later, I again used ultra surf to download the same file, but this time the speed has been reduced(since using ultra surf reduces the speed).

After a couple of experiments, I found that proxy may be bypassed by the following steps.
--> First of all start the download while using ultra surf.
--> Close ultra surf , 5 minutes after the download had started and quickly change the proxy settings to your actual proxy server.**
--> You will see that the download still occurs even with out ultra surf and with more speed than before while using ultra surf.
--> In the middle the connection may loose again. Then again start ultra surf and repeat from the 2nd step.

*    Light downloader uses the IE proxy settings(or your default browser's).
**  It should be noted that the proxy address changing i.e. from 127.0.0.1:9666 to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx(your college proxy address) should be changed very quickly to ensure the connections are still alive. To change it, quiclky run CCleaner and it will automatically change the proxy settings to default settings i.e. your college's proxy address.
