Android announced "Android Device Manager" which is designed exclusively for android devices. Though official app isn't released yet, but it is expected to be released in a month.

Android Device Manager can:

Locate and Ring your device
If the device is accidentally misplaced somewhere, with Android Device Manager can help you ring the phone to the maximum volume even if the phone is in silent mode. Also it can locate the phone in map accurately.

Protecting personal data in your device
If there is some important data in the phone, it can be securely erased from the device preventing loss of data to wrong hands.

Minimum requirement is device running android 2.2 or later.
